The Toffees could welcome back their former boss

David Moyes could be set for a shock return to Everton, with the Scottish boss interested in a move back to Goodison Park this summer.

The 52-year-old is a target for Scottish giants Celtic, who will be playing European football next season, but is monitoring the managerial situation on Merseyside closely, with the hope he could return to Everton.

Ronny Deila is set to leave Celtic Park this summer, and Moyes is being lined up to take over from the Norweigan, with the former Toffees boss willing to manage back in his homeland.

However, if Everton sack Roberto Martinez this summer, the former Real Sociedad boss is keen to return to the club, where he enjoyed a successful spell in his managerial career.

Old friends reunite?

And the prospect of Moyes returning to Goodison Park, after leaving for an unsuccessful ten-month stint at Manchester United, is quite likely, if the club decide to part company with Martinez, with club chairman Bill Kenwright having share a good relationship with the Scot.

Moyes spent 11 years at Everton, regularly challenging towards the European places, while this season the Toffees are languishing in 11th. And with the 52-year-old sacked as Real Sociedad boss late last year, the fans’ favourite could be set for a return, in hope to rectify his damaged reputation.

Martinez’s future is set to be discussed by the Everton board this week, after the club’s failings in the league and falling out of both the League Cup, and most recently, the FA Cup to Manchester United, at the semi-final stages.
