Potential Swansea City takeover edges closer

A pair of American businessmen are reportedly closing in on a takeover of Swansea City, potentially worth up to £100m.

Stephen Kaplan and Jason Levein, it is understood, have been in talks with the Premier League club for over a year.

They seem to have plans for the future of the club, including:

  • Plans for the purchase and expansion of the Liberty Stadium
  • The club’s Supporters Trust retaining a key role, including shares and their seat on the board
  • Swans chairman Huw Jenkins remaining at the club, in his current frontline role
  • Finances to assist with the infrastructure of the club, including investing in the playing squad
There are no suggestions of a leveraged buy-out with no debt attached to Swansea as a result of the deal.
Trust board members met with one of the American figureheads before today’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea.
Kaplan and Levein have built their reputation Stateside, with Levien Managing General Owner at Major League Soccer outfit DC United and Kaplan a shareholder in NBA franchise Memphis Grizzlies.
