Hugo Lloris questions Totttenham’s ability to compete on two fronts

Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated from Champions League contention last night after being defeated by French side Monaco in the principality.

And it doesn’t get any easier for them on Saturday, with a trip to in-form Chelsea, who will be fresher after no European commitments this week.

Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who tried his best to stop Spurs from their loss, has admitted that the club may struggle in their quest to compete on two fronts. This is something that the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have been able to do effectively over the years.

“We will talk between ourselves and try to find solution,” said Lloris. “Maybe we are not ready to manage Premier League and Champions League campaigns at the same time, but we need to question ourselves about that.“Everyone at the club was excited to play this competition, and all the players too but we failed all together. We had bigger expectations in this group stage. We will not go through, we are still fighting for a Europa League but it’s not enough for a club like Spurs. It’s a big disappointment.

“It makes for a lot of frustration, I can’t hide that. We need to digest this and look forward to the game at Chelsea on Saturday.”

Spurs need to avoid losing to CSKA Moscow in their final group game on 7 December to at least keep their European ambitions alive for this season, albeit in the Europa League.
