Tottenham Hotspur have received some good news regarding the fitness of one of their key players, ahead of their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

England forward Harry Kane sustained an ankle ligament injury against Sunderland eight days ago, and was absent from their 2-1 win at Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Kane, in addition to Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Moussa Sissoko, will not feature in Russia.

After suffering the injury, it was initially feared that Kane would miss eight weeks of action. However, the Daily Mail claims  it could now be closer to six.

This means Kane may be available for the North London derby against Arsenal on 6 November.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino said: ‘We received the information about the scan. It’s much, much better than we expected,’

‘We are happy, it was very positive, the scan. We’re very, very happy about this news but still we cannot give a time of how long it’ll be to recover.

‘I am not a doctor, it’s hard to say one, two, three weeks, but it’s much, much better than we expected.’

On the trio of other Spurs stars missing for the CSKA clash, Pochettino added: ‘Dier, Dembele and Rose are OK but we don’t want to take a risk. ‘Dier and Danny Rose are at the same level but Mousa, we’ll see.

‘Why take a risk when we played one or two days ago at Boro and we have another game tomorrow?
