The 24-year-old is spending the season on loan at Bournemouth but admits he would like to see his parent club win the title

Jack Wilshere admits he would “be happy” for Arsenal if they win the Premier League this season, despite spending the season on loan at league rivals Bournemouth.

The midfielder was shipped out on loan by boss Arsene Wenger during the summer, in order to gain more first-team football, and Wilshere has impressed on the south coast and scored in Bournemouth’s shock last-gasp 4-3 home win over Liverpool on Sunday.

Wilshere joined the club as a nine-year-old, but despite now facing the possibility of missing out on a Premier League winners medal, he would love to see his Gunners boss and teammates win the title for the first time since 2004.

“I’d be happy for them [if Arsenal won the title],” the Bournemouth loanee admitted.

“Someone asked me if it would be strange, but I’ve been there for that long and I know the manager and we have a good relationship. I know that’s the one he wants the most.

“He’s hungry for that and he’s built a team over the years which now he feels – and a lot of people feel – is ready to really challenge.

“I’d be happy for them. Of course, it would be a little bit strange because I’m not there and you’d see all the celebrations, but I’m an Arsenal man, I’ve been there for many years, and I want them to do well.”

Wenger’s men secured a comfortable 5-1 away win over West Ham on Saturday evening, which moved them up to second in the Premier League and three points short of league leaders Chelsea.
