Winger won’t feature in last game of the season

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has been left out of the match-day squad for the season finale against Stoke City today, sparking more speculation regarding his future.

The England international has informed the Merseyside club that he won’t be signing a contract extension at the end of the season and wants to leave the club over the Summer.

Sterling’s Season of Controversy

It’s been a controversial season for Sterling which started back when he did an interview with BBC Sport discussing his future. During the interview, the winger stated his future isn’t regarding money, it’s about being at the right club that can compete for trophies on a regular basis.

Since the interview, Liverpool were knocked out of the FA Cup and then failed to finish in the top-four meaning no Champions League football next season.

Reports broke on Monday evening that the 20-year-old won’t be signing a new contract at Anfield, and since then, his agent has been speaking in the media slamming the club and it’s former-pros.

Aidy Ward, Sterling’s agent, called Jamie Carragher ‘a knob’ before confirming his client wouldn’t sign a new deal even if it was worth ÂŁ900k-a-week.

Despite all the bad press and the speculation surrounding Sterling, Brendan Rodgers said in this week’s press conference that he has no intentions on selling the winger, and expects him to honour his contract, which has two-years left.

Rodgers also called for fans to continue to support the winger despite the controversial few months.

However, reports them emerged this morning that Liverpool could be prepared to sell the winger for ÂŁ50million, or could consider a player-swap deal with Manchester City involving Edin Dzeko.

The latest reports have now confirmed that Sterling WON’T feature in the club’s final game of the season away at Stoke City.
