Wayne Rooney has spoken of his excitement regarding his England colleagues, and added that he expects them to deliver at Euro 2016.

The Three Lions take to the field in their final Group B game against Slovakia tomorrow, needing just a point to ensure a place in the knockout stages.

Rooney, normally a real threat up front, has been moved back into a midfield role.

And he does not seem fazed by the move: in fact, he has impressed in his new berth.

Manchester United star Rooney says he is excited with the potential of the England squad, and believes they can achieve something special.

“As I’ve said before, we’ve got a very good, exciting squad and I think time will tell,’ the 113-cap star said when asked to compare the squad to ones of years gone by.

‘I think we’re not going to get judged on what happens in this tournament – I think the players have got a lot of years ahead of them and this tournament will help.

‘But we’re not here as a group of players for the experience, we’re here to try and do well and go far.

‘But I certainly think over the next few years this squad can grow into a better team, a more mature team.

‘But at the minute, we’re trying to do as well as we can and we feel we’ve had a good start.

‘We hope we can continue that and go into the later stages of the tournament.”

Tomorrow’s game sees England return to St Etienne for the first time since the famous 1998 World Cup clash with Argentina, which saw Michael Owen score a wonder goal, David Beckham sent off, and England eventually eliminated on penalties.
