The two clubs are debating a £4m difference in their valuation of John Stones

Everton and Chelsea are reportedly locked in negotiations over the valuation of Toffees defender, John Stones.

Chelsea have already seen bids of £20m and £26m rejected for the 21-year-old, with Everton unwilling to sell the player for anything less than £34m.

However – the Premier League title-holders will only pay £30m for Stones, leaving the two clubs at loggerheads within regards to the valuation.

Relations between both Everton and Chelsea have soured over the previous few weeks, with both Roberto Martinez and Jose Mourinho hitting out at one another.

Mourinho Speaks Out

“While they say we don’t accept this bid, until 1 September we can improve the bid, one pound more, 10 pounds more we can improve the bid,” Mourinho said last week.

“If one day [Everton manager] Roberto Martinez or the chairman come and say he’s not for sale, we don’t accept any bid, it’s game over.  So during this process, it’s clear, we don’t deny we made a bid for Stones. We are trying to buy.”

United Interest

That leaves Manchester United, who have been somewhat frozen out, however the Red Devils are still likely to make a bid for Stones.
