Everton enquire about Patrick Bamford

The forward has attracted interest after good form last season

Everton have made ‘tentative enquiries’ to Chelsea about their attacker Patrick Bamford, according to the Daily Mail.

The Toffees want to add some competition to their strike force to give in-form hit man Romelu Lukaku someone to battle with for the lone attacking role.

The 21-year old Bamford, who can play up top or in the number 10 playmaker position, could be an ideal player for the Merseyside club. He scored 19 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions during his loan spell at Middlesbrough last campaign.

He also had successful loan spells at Milton Keynes Dons and Derby County, however, Chelsea may finally want a permanent switch for their man as it looks as if he may not get first team football in West London.

Toffees’ boss busy in the transfer market

Bamford could be the third signing of the summer who is heading to Goodison Park, because Everton manager Roberto Martinez has already been busy in the transfer window.

The Spaniard has already brought in Tom Cleverley on a free transfer after he was released by Manchester United, with former loanee Gerard Deulofeu also expected to sign from Barcelona for ÂŁ2.2 million in the coming days.

It is also believed that Martinez will not be finished in the market if he is successful in his attempts for Bamford. The former Wigan Athletic gaffer is targeting a playmaker as well as the England Under-21 international.

He also wants a new centre-back, especially since Antolin Alcaraz and Sylvain Distin were both released.
