Catalan club see Welshman as Xavi replacement

FC Barcelona are interested in signing Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey once they have served their transfer ban for breaching UEFA’s rules.

The Spanish giants are currently in a transfer embargo and won’t be able to sign anyone until next Summer after they fielded ineligible players at youth level.

Transfer Embargo

The ban was meant to take place last Summer, but Barca appealed it and got it delayed, meaning they could make signings ahead of the 2014/2015 campaign, with Luis Suarez being the big one.

However, their appeal was rejected and now they will face a year embargo meaning they can take part in no transfer activity.

Xavi Replacement

Despite this, long-serving midfielder Xavi is set to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season to join a Qatar club for one final chapter in is illustrious career and Barca want Ramsey as a long-term replacement.

The Welshman had a stunning season for Arsenal last year, scoring the winning goal at Wembley in the FA Cup Final to end their trophy drought, and his consistent performances caught the eye of Barca.

The 24-year-old has struggled to continue his form into this season, but Luis Enrique has still been impressed with what he has seen and heard after sending a scouting team to watch the midfielder over 10-times this year.

Barca Scouting Team

According to reports, Barca scouts were at Old Trafford for the Manchester United-Arsenal game, and they will also be at Wembley for the cup final.

Barca were originally monitoring Jack Wilshere as they have been long-term admirers of the Englishman, but attentions have now turned to Ramsey after last season’s heroics.

Wilshere’s injury history could be another reason why Barca have pulled their interest in the midfielder.

It’s stated that the La Liga champions are prepared to part ways with around ÂŁ50million for Ramsey.
