Federico Macheda could come to London

Watford are eyeing a move for former Manchester United striker Federico Macheda.

The Hornets have taken the forward on trial after he left Cardiff last summer. He’s been without a club since. However, as part of his trial, the Italian scored a penalty for Watford’s Under-23’s on Tuesday in a 4-2 loss against Hull.

He’s available outside of the window due to being a free agent, and Walter Mazzari sees him as ideal cover for Troy Deeny, Odion Ighalo and Isaac Success.

Macheda made a name for himself in 2009, contributing to United’s title winning campaign. But since then, he’s been on the move a lot and has had mixed fortunes at several clubs. He was loaned out by United to 5 different clubs including Sampdoria, VFB Stuttgart and Doncaster Rovers. He moved permanently to Cardiff City in 2014, but went out on loan a year later to Nottingham Forest.

He was sent back to Cardiff where he was eventually released this summer, and is now free to go to any club who wants him.
