Dutch defender has agreed fresh terms at Old Trafford

Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah will sign a new four-year deal at Old Trafford when he returns after the international break.

The 18-year-old is a key part of Jose Mourinho’s plans, despite being restricted, mainly, to appearances in the Europa League and EFL Cup. And a renewal of his contract has been high on the Red Devils’ agenda for some time now.

Fosu-Mensah, who made his United debut under former boss Louis Van Gaal back in February, is set to see his earnings rise to £25,000-a-week – a deal that is worth £5.2 million over four years.

The youngster’s contract expires at the end of the season, but is highly regarded at Old Trafford, with Mourinho seeing the defender as a long-term part of his plans.

Instead of shipping Fosu-Mensah out on loan, like was the case with most of the youngsters in the Portuguese’s reign at Chelsea, he is keen to keep the player as the club battle on four fronts this campaign.
