Galatasaray President wants Berbatov

Galatasaray have confirmed an interest in signing Manchester United’s Dimitar Berbatov, but will leave the decision in manager Fatih Terim’s hands.

Berbatov has confirmed he is looking to leave Old Trafford this summer after starting just five Premier League games for United last season.

The Old Trafford higherarchy took up an option to extend his contract earlier this year, but he has been linked with several teams.

Former club Bayer Leverkusen have refused to make a bid for the 31-year-old, while Berbatov’s agent welcomed speculation regarding a possible move to Paris St Germain.

However, Turkey could now be an option for Berbatov after Galatasaray President Unal Aysal personally expressed his club’s interest in the former Tottenham Hotspur forward.

“The Bulgarian is a great forward,” Aysal is quoted as saying on gol.bg. “I want him to join us, but of course, coach Fatih Terim has the final word.”

Berbatov scored 57 goals in 149 appearances for United since joining them from Spurs in 2008 and was the Premier League’s top scorer in the 2010/11 title-winning season.
