Graeme Souness has praised Sadio Mane as Liverpool’s most-important player ahead of Philippe Coutinho.

Liverpool are trying to fend off interest from La Liga giants Barcelona in the current transfer window.

Barca have reportedly failed with bids of £80m and £90m to sign the Brazilian.

Coutinho scored 13 goals and seven assists in 31 appearances last season to help the Reds secure fourth spot.

Then there’s Sadio Mane who played a very vital role in Liverpool’s campaign as well, the Senegal international netted 13 times and made five goals in his first campaign following a £30m deal last summer.

The African forward has already opened his account for the 2017-18 campaign with a superb solo goal in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Watford in their Premier League opener.

Former Reds captain Souness believes Mane is now the more important player to manager Jurgen Klopp than Coutinho, and as a result, Liverpool should consider an offer for the Brazilian midfielder.

“I’d snap their hand off for £100m [for Coutinho]. He isn’t the most important player they’ve got,” Souness told Irish television station TV3.

“If you’re asking me who is the most important player at Liverpool at the moment, it’s Mane. He gets more goals. He is more threatening. The end product is more about Mane.”

Coutinho moved to Liverpool in an £8.5m deal from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the 2013 January transfer window.
