Jack Grealish was eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland through his grandmother

The 20-year-old has appeared on several occasions for the Green Army at Under 21 level.

England manager Roy Hodgson will decide on Thursday whether Grealish deserves a place in the squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Lithuania and Estonia.

The youngster came to prominence in the Aston Villa team last season, making 24 appearances, after scoring five goals during a season-long loan at Notts County.

His only goal this season came during a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Leicester City, in a game which The Villa were winning 2-0.

Tim Sherwood’s side are currently 18th in the Premier League and have won just one game since the start of the season.

Liverpool 3-2 Aston Villa

Whilst victory for Liverpool has relieved some of the pressure of Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, Sherwood was already speaking about a possible relegation fight.

He told BBC Sport: “Our performances have merited better than one win in seven games but I said from the start it would be an uphill struggle,”

“We need to stay in the division and if we do we will be stronger next year.”

The Reds were leading 2-0 up until the 66th minute thanks to goals from James Milner and Daniel Sturridge, before Rudy Gestede pulled a goal back with a powerful header.

In a pivotal moment of the game, the away side gifted possession to Liverpool before a fine interchange of play between Philippe Coutinho and Sturridge saw the England international striker score his second goal of the game.
