The former Gunners’ striker has his say
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Arsene Wenger to sign a top class holding midfielder in the January transfer window.
The North London side are currently short on options in that department due to recent injuries to Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and even Theo Walcott.
And Wright fears that Arsenal’s best chance of a title challenge in years could be in jeopardy if Wenger doesn’t fill that void with a quality recruit.
The experienced French manager has previously received criticism for his transfer policy, after he failed to sign a single outfield player in the latest summer transfer window.
‘Something needs to be done’
“When Francis Coquelin broke down you could hear the groans from Gunners’ fans around the world. That’s how important the Frenchman has been,” said Wright.
“Something needs to be done in January. Arsenal need someone who will genuinely bring something to the table, rather than simply fill in around the edges.”
He also added:Â “January is Wenger’s most important transfer window in years and years. If he can bring in the right man, or men, it could make a world of difference to whether Arsenal can go all the way.”
