Ian Wright has sent a warning to Chelsea that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t capable of filling the gap left by Nemanja Matic.
The Blues have been linked with a move to sign the England international from EPL rivals Arsenal this summer.
The England star has yet to agree to a contract extension and Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly concerned about a lack of first-team football at the club.
Chelsea are said to be on the lookout to sign a player able to replace Matic after the Serbia international moved to Manchester United in a £40m deal last summer.
Former Arsenal striker Wright has warned the Premier League champions that Oxlade-Chamberlain isn’t capable of filling Matic’s void in the Chelsea starting line-up.
“You wouldn’t put Oxlade-Chamberlain in a holding role [to replace Matic],” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday night.
