Former Manchester City assistant manager David Platt has revealed that Roberto Mancini was planning on selling Joe Hart in order to sign Stoke City’s goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Luckily for Hart though, Mancini and Platt both left the club this summer after a dismal season at the Etihad Stadium and they were replaced by Manuel Pelligrini and his coaching staff.

Platt was quoted by Al Jazeera as saying: ‘If Mancini and I were still at Man City this year Joe Hart wouldn’t be there. We made a decision to sign Asmir Begovic.’

Hart made an error during England’s victory against Scotland at Wembley and he was also at fault during City’s 3-2 defeat to newly-promoted Cardiff City at the weekend.

As for Begovic, he was strongly linked with a move away from Stoke after becoming one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and these shock quotes from the former City assistant may open up yet another transfer saga before the deadline shuts next week.
