Borussia Dortmund ready to cash in on midfielder

A trio of Premier League clubs have been put on red-alert with the reports claiming Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The German international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all previously interested in signing him.

According to reports in Germany, Dortmund officials are finally ready to cash-in on the 25-year-old after it has emerged that he’s snubbed a new contract at the club.

Gundogan has been a wanted man for the past few years, despite having ongoing injury issues, restricting him to very few first-team appearances over the last few seasons.

With Gundogan rejecting a new contract, it’s heavily suggested that he will complete a transfer to Liverpool in order to have a reunion with Jurgen Klopp, the manager who signed him back in 2011.

However, the Reds will have stiff competition from their Premier League rivals as both Arsene Wenger and Louis van Gaal are eyeing midfield reinforcements over the summer, if the latter is still in a job that is.

Midfielder Wants New Challenge

Gundogan has one-year left on his current contract at Dortmund, and he’s recently admitted that he may fancy a new challenge in his career.

He said: “You can always see from two different perspectives: some will say, okay, he has extended, and if he should go next year, the club will therefore still get a lot of money. So it’s all good.

“And others say: Again, it’s only one year. Everyone has to form his own opinion – I just want to be honest.

“I appreciate this wonderful club very much, but my life plan also looks at some time with a new challenge.”
