Inter Milan are prepared to allow the midfielder to leave for £21.5m

Mateo Kovacic can leave the San Siro club for the right price, according to Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

Reports in Italy suggest Inter would use the funds raised from selling Kovacic to chase after the likes of Marseille’s Giannelli Imbula and Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah.

Earlier this week, there were claims the Croatian midfielder would cost just over £15m but interest from several clubs, including Liverpool, means the asking price will be closer to £20m.

Gerrard’s replacement

The 21-year-old has been linked with the Merseyside club after their captain and talisman Steven Gerrard announced he would join LA Galaxy after spending his entire career with the Reds.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has already sought to help address the void left by Gerrard by bringing in Manchester City’s James Milner.

The former Swansea coach’s activity in the transfer market this summer represents a prudent approach – Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bodgan have all moved on free transfers.

Express Sport claims Charlton’s Joe Gomez is also a key target for Liverpool with the Addicks defender potentially costing the Reds in excess of £8million.

The Merseyside club would prefer any move for Gomez to be concluded sooner rather than later as the 18-year-old has been “earmarked” as a player with huge potential.
