Ivanovic’s contract with the Blues runs out in January

Inter Milan are preparing for pre-contract talks with Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic next month, in hope of tempting him to the San Siro next summer.

The 31-year-old has been left frustrated by contract negotiations at Stamford Bridge, with the club only offering one-year deals to players over 30, leaving a window of opportunity for Inter to make a move.

The Nerazzurri hope they can persuade Ivanovic to Serie A next summer by offering him a two-year deal, having watched the player on numerous occasions this season, with Inter boss Roberto Mancini keen to get a deal done.

Although it is expected a deal will be reached with the Blues, who the Serbian defender has played for since 2008, his agent Zoran Krneta has not ruled out the possibility of a switch.

“In football everything is possible. The Nerazzurri (Inter) could be interested in him for the summer market and not the winter one.” Krneta said.

Form could decide Chelsea future

Although it’s understood Ivanovic is keen to stay with the current Premier League Champions, his form could have a say on whether he is offered the deal he wants.

The 31-year-old has had a poor season by his standards, alongside other key members of the Chelsea squad, which could dictate his future at the club.

Chelsea are currently 14th in the league and 12 points off the Champions League places, although they have kept three consecutive clean sheets in a recent upturn in form.

With John Terry’s contract also up at the end of the season, the Blues are yet to make a decision whether to retain their centre-back and captain, which may have a say on whether the keep fellow veteran Ivanovic in west London.
