Striker puts pen to paper at St Marys

Tottenham and Arsenal target Jay Rodriguez has extended his contract with Southampton by signing a new four-year deal at St Mary’s.

Rodriguez has not had much of a season at all with him being out with a cruciate knee ligament injury against Manchester City in April 2014.

However, there have been plenty of rumours spiralling about his future at the club with Tottenham and Arsenal both interested in the forward.

Southampton have silenced the media and speculation as they have managed to tie the England international down to a new four-year contract.

Rodriguez Statement

Rodriguez commented on the deal, he said: “I’m delighted.

“It’s a great club and we’ve done amazingly this year.

“”It’s been a tough year for myself being out, but I’m really delighted to sign the contract. It’s now about looking forward to the future.

“The medical staff have all worked tirelessly with me, so this is great news. I just want to carry on improving now and to try and get some game time.” he added.

Koeman Statement

Saints gaffer Ronald Koeman said: “This is very good news for the club because there was some speculation about Jay and interest from other big clubs, so it is a compliment to the club that we have an agreement.

“It has been a difficult time for Jay who has been doing everything to come back in good shape.

“It’s a good start to the summer business for us because it shows that everyone here is convinced by what we want to achieve.” he continued.
