Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he will wait for up to 48-hours for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, but he has admitted that he is prepared to move on to other targets if he fails to capture the Englishman by then.

Rooney started for United last night during their 0-0 draw at Old Trafford against Mourinho’s men and was welcomed with great support from the home fans despite the transfer saga continuing.

The striker has been clear that he wants to leave United and Chelsea would be his favoured destination, but as of yet, nothing formal has been arranged between the two sides as United are adamant on not selling the 27-year-old.

After the game Mourinho gave the latest on the situation and revealed how long he is prepared to wait for the striker.

“We have to speak but this club must be a very special club, because in every club in the world when a player wants to leave, they don’t support him. They give him a hard time. But they support him all the way.

“We are not so silly as to try to get a player from a big club, a club that doesn’t sell what they don’t want to sell; we are not so silly as to try to do something if somebody didn’t start it.

“The person that started the story has to finish the story. For the good of everyone it is time to finish the story. One way or another he has to say ‘I want to leave’ or ‘I want to stay’.”

“(We will wait) Twenty-four hours, 48 hours.”
