Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that he tried to persuade Frank Lampard to join him at Inter Milan, after the Portuguese had left Stamford Bridge.

Back in 2007, Mourinho parted company with Chelsea after a dreadful start to the Premier League campaign and soon after he joined Seria A side Inter Milan, where he went on to be a real success.

Now back at Chelsea, he has revealed that after he left England for the first time, he tried to take Lampard with him.

“I tried to take him to Inter, but I was saying, ‘You belong to Chelsea and you should stay’,” said Mourinho.

“I wanted to bring him but I also wanted him to stay. I told him, ‘If you want to come I want you’, but in the end he did what he wanted to do and signed a new contract at Chelsea.

“He was not very far away, but in the end I was happy and I told him so. It was a good decision.”
