Back me or sack me says Chelsea boss

Despite another Premier League loss yesterday evening, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is adamant that he won’t walk away from Stamford Bridge.

The Blues lost 3-1 at home to Southampton yesterday, dumping further misery onto Mourinho and his reigning champions, leaving them 16th in the table.

After the game, Mourinho was visibly agitated and annoyed at the defeat, but he insisted that he will not walk away from his job and will have to be sacked in order to leave the club.

Mourinho Comes Out Fighting

He said: “There is no way I will resign. Chelsea can not have a better manager than me. There are many managers in the world at my level – but none better.

“There is no way I will run away. I have my professional ride and I know – I am good at my job.

“I love this club and `I want the best for my club. And the best for my club is to stay.

“No other club could ever persuade me to leave. I said that when we were champions and I say that again unless the owner or the board want me to leave.

“When the club asked me to come back they said that before they had changed manager when the results got bad but were now going in a different direction.

“Now it is time for the club to act in a way of stability and trust. It is time for us all to pull together even when we are at the bottom of the league.

“I want to make it clear: I do not run away. If the club wants to sack me they have to sack me, because I am not running away from my responsibility for my team.

“To be champions is difficult, but I am more than convinced we will finish top four. And if you finish top four when the season is so bad, it is ok.

“But if the club sacks me they sack the best manager this club ever had.

“This is a moment when people assume responsibilities, including me the players and other people in the club. We need to stick together, this is what I want.”
