Agent speaks out about what nearly happened

Mino Raiola has revealed that Jose Mourinho wanted to buy Paul Pogba last year for Chelsea, but an agreement between Raiola himself and Juventus denied him.

Pogba rejoined United this summer for a world-record ÂŁ89million, but 4 years after leaving Old Trafford for next to nothing.

But the 23-year-old’s agent revealed on Thursday that a potential deal with Chelsea was delayed by an agreement with Raiola and the Italian club that he could leave if they won the Serie A title and Champions League.

Raiola told Rai Sport: “Paul could have left [Juventus] last year because Mourinho – then at Chelsea – really wanted him.

“But Juventus and I had agreement: win the league title and the Champions League, then he can go.”

Juventus won their 5th consecutive Serie A title last season, but couldn’t win the Champions League as they were knocked out by Juventus. However, Juventus wanted to but Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli and knew that selling Pogba could fund that transfer. And hence, Pogba was sold.

Raiola added: “De Laurentiis should be giving Paul a present, because without his departure Juventus would never have bought Higuain, and he would never have been able to bank all that money.”
