Belgian striker told he can still have a future at Anfield

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reassured Christian Benteke that he could still have a future at Anfield.

The Belgian international arrived in Merseyside over the summer after they agreed to activate his Aston Villa release clause, which stood at £32.4million.

Benteke has struggled to make an impact since that move however, scoring just four goals and spending most of his time on the bench.

Despite Liverpool having injury problems in the attacking department, Klopp has often preferred to use Roberto Firmino as a false number-nine.

When asked about Benteke’s futre, Klopp was adamant that the striker can still play a big part in his Liverpool squad.

Klopp Supports Benteke

Klopp said: “The situation for players is not always the sunny side of life. Timing is everything.

“Christian wasn’t in the best moment of his career four or five weeks ago. It was obvious.

“The only thing a player, not only Christian, can do in a situation like this is first of all accept the situation in a positive way. Don’t think ‘oh thank god I don’t have pressure on the bench’.

“It is not a decision for the future, it is only a decision for now. That is not too funny I’m sure for him. The only thing is to work, there is no alternative.”
