Jurgen Klopp: “This is why Antonio Conte has struggled this season”
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was asked about some of Antonio Conte’s struggles this season ahead of Liverpool’s crucial match against Chelsea on Saturday evening.
According to the German, the Blues transfer strategy is to blame for their current position, which sees them 9 points behind leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table.
The likes of Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic were allowed to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, and according to Klopp that is part of the reason why their title defence has faltered.
“They lost decisive players with Matic and Costa,” said the Reds’ boss. “With Chelsea last year, everything worked. They didn’t need many chances to win a game.”
“It’s difficult to play the same season again, especially when you lose players.” he concluded.
Chelsea have also had a number of injury problems to deal with this season. Eden Hazard missed the first month or so, before Alvaro Morata and Ngolo Kante both had spells on the sidelines.
However, they have returned to form recently with 6 wins from 7 matches and will hope for a morale boosting win at Anfield on Saturday.
