The Syria-born Germany Under-21 is a long-term target of the Reds

Serie A champions Juventus have joined Liverpool in the race for Germany Under-21 international and Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud.

The highly-rated 20-year-old is understood to have turned down several new deals at the Bundesliga outfit, as he looks to make a move to a bigger club.

However, Monchengladbach were able to persuade Dahoud to stay this summer, despite intense interest from the Reds, with the club able offer Champions League football, with the club starting the group stage away to Manchester City on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp had hoped to lure the player to the club next summer, by activating the player’s €10 million release clause, but the German’s job has been made harder since Juve have expressed an interest in the midfielder.

Dahoud already boasts a wealth of experience, having made 41 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit last campaign, while also chipping in with five goals.

Next summer, Dahoud will have just a year remaining on his contract and Monchengladbach will be keen to cash in on the player, instead of seeing him leave for free the following summer. But the worry for Liverpool will be whether they can offer Champions League football or not.

Juventus are all but certain to be playing Champions League football, given their impressive form in Serie A over recent years, but Klopp is hoping to get his Reds team back into Europe’s elite club competition this summer.

Paul Pogba left for a world-record ÂŁ89 million this summer, and Juve will be hoping to lure Dahoud to Serie A and make him the next young talent to go on to become a very valuable asset.
