Midfielder will miss Man City clash for bizarre reason

We’ve heard plenty of bizarre reasons for players to miss football matches, but this might trump the lot.

Ones that come to mind are Valencia legendary goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares missing a World Cup after dropping a bottle of aftershave on his foot, or Leroy Lita getting injured getting out of bed. However Ki’s absence is a little odd but it’s nothing to do with injury.

Yes, Ki will miss Swansea’s game against Manchester City tomorrow because he is required to serve time in the South Korean army.

All men from South Korea are required to serve their country for a period before they’re 29, and with Ki currently aged 27, he’s running out of time. Luckily for him, he was in South Korea’s 2012 bronze-medal winning football squad, so he is only required to serve for 4 weeks, compared to the average man, who serves 18 months.

The reason he has to miss the game tomorrow is because there are only 6 weeks between the end of the season, and when Swansea begin their pre-season routines, so the club have decided to give him this game off, so that when he returns home he can have a sufficient rest.
