Pep Guardiola is adamant Toni Kroos will not join United this summer.

The 24-year-old midfielder’s contract at the Bayern Munich is set to expire in the summer of 2015. He’s been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford as part of David Moyes’ planned overhaul.

But Guardiola insists the German international will not be allowed to leave the German champions at the end of the season.

And the Spaniard is hopeful Kroos will sign a new deal.

Guardiola said: “Toni has one year more of a contract and Toni will remain there.

“I hope he can extend his contract and stay with us because he is a very good guy, he loves his game.

“It is not just a job for him and I would like him to stay but I spoke with the player, with the club, I gave my opinion. After that I am not manager, I am just the trainer.”

Earlier this year, Kroos hinted he might be tempted by a move to United.

He said: “It is no secret that the Premier League is a possibility for me.

“But no one has come to any agreement with me and it will stay like this until the summer and, some time, a decision will be made. It is also no secret that the Premier League is not a bad league.”

But yesterday Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge echoed Guardiola’s belief that Kroos will stay beyond the summer.

He said: “Toni Kroos is sure to play in a Bayern Munich shirt next year.”
