Jurgen Klopp to give winger another chance to impress at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is ready to give Lazar Markovic a second chance to impress at Anfield, according to reports.

The Reds splashed out £20million on the Serbian winger when signing him from Portuguese side Benfica, but after failing to impress during his debut season, Brendan Rodgers then decided to ship him out on loan to Fenerbahce.

The decision to loan Markovic out was a surprising one, as it left Liverpool with just one natural winger in Jordan Ibe, following the departure of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City.

Now Rodgers has been sacked and replaced by Klopp, the German is keen to add a couple of wingers to his squad, but according to reports, he’s ready to give Markovic a second chance to impress.

Markovic is currently back at Melwood following an injury during his loan spell, and Klopp has issued the latest on the Serbian’s future.

Markovic Offered Second Chance

“He’s injured so he is back for us,” said Klopp. “But he is not our player so he will have to go back (to Fenerbahce). We will talk about things, we will speak about next season while he is here.

“I will say at the start of pre-season, ‘Welcome, and then it’s up to you’.

“That is how it is in football, it is a long preseason and if he wants to come back to Liverpool on July 2, then you are welcome.

“We are short on wingers. Everybody who is involved in pre-season can have a part to play.”

“We need a big squad for the pre-season because of European Championships and then after this we make a decision,” added the Liverpool manager.

“But it is a long time to show what you have.”
