Lewandowski’s future has been subject to widespread speculation over the last few weeks, following links to Bayern Munich and both Manchester clubs, but now the saga has been given another perspective, as the possibility of staying with Dortmund seems more probable. The player, contracted until the summer 2014, has not hesitated to publicly state his preference, which would be to join fellow Dortmund-star Mario Götze to the current Champions League winners Bayern Munich. However, the Club remains extremely reluctant to sell yet another star to their major rivals in Germany and thus wants the pole to stay at the club, even at the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer.

General Manager of Dortmund Hans-Joachim Watzke, confirmed the desire to keep the striker at the club as he told the press: “Robert will definitely be playing for Borussia Dortmund next season. We need this security to be able to plan for the season”. Dortmund are thought to be under no pressure to sell Lewandowski after selling Mario Götze to the German Champions in a multi-million pound move. The Club is currently searching for a replacement for Götze as they look to rebuild a squad to challenge the Bavarian Giant in the Bundesliga in the following campaign.
