Liverpool have agreed contract terms with £53m rated star from Sporting Lisbon.

Liverpool have agreed on contract terms with Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins but are still way off from agreeing on the transfer fee with Sporting directors.

The Reds have been linked with a slew of wingers recently including Riyad Mahrez and Thomas Lemar in order to replace Philippe Coutinho.

According to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha the Reds are close to agreeing on a deal for the speedy 22-year-old, offering £4.4m a year, which is five times his current salary.

The Portugal international is keen to join the Reds but Sporting are holding out for an increased offer to match their valuation of him.

It’s understood Sporting will only sell if Liverpool meet his £53m release clause. But, Liverpool have only offered about half of that according to reports.

And Sporting are eager to keep Martins by increasing his salary and his release clause in order to fend off interest from other clubs.

The Portuguese side are wanting to keep Martins and believe his value will only increase after the 2018 World Cup. It’s believed they want to increase his release clause to £88m.

So Liverpool are going to have to match Sporting’s release clause soon as his price will likely only increase two-fold by next summer.

Martins has scored five goals and made three assists in 18 appearances so far this season.
