Reds sent officials to Florida to hold talks

Liverpool are ready to hijack Chelsea’s proposed deal for Shakhtar Donetsk striker Alex Teixeira, according to reports.

Ian Ayre, the club’s chief executive, has flown out to America in order to hold talks with the Ukrainian club, who are currently out in Florida on a winter training camp.

Teixeira, who has hinted that he’s ready to leave Ukraine in order to further his career, has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea, with the Blues prepared to pay the ÂŁ30million that Shakhtar want for him.

The 26-year-old admitted that he felt he had to leave his current club in order to be recognised for his country. Teixeira is yet to make a cap for Brazil despite his impressive goal-scoring form, and he believes a move to the Premier League will help him get recognition at international level.

However, a move to Stamford Bridge may not be the only option now with Liverpool reportedly keen on landing him.

Although the Reds are keen on the striker, they are refusing to meet their current asking price and value Teixeira at ÂŁ25m, a fee that wouldn’t be accepted by Shakhtar.

Liverpool were dealt a boost however with the news that Chelsea are now closing in on Alexandre Pato, which leaves them clear to land Teixeira if they can agree on a price.
