Liverpool are reportedly planning a £46million move for Dortmund star

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reportedly identified Reus as the ideal replacement for Raheem Sterling.

Sterling refused to join the Liverpool squad as they prepared to begin their pre-season tour of the Far East and Australia fuelling speculation about an imminent move to Manchester City.

City, had already failed with two bids last month for the England international but last night the two clubs agreed a £49million deal.

The Reds are now looking to replace Sterling as quickly as possible and are keen to bring in Reus, who has been a long-term target for Liverpool.

Reus not keen on Barcelona

Reus, 26, who is also a target for Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Real Madrid, recently ruled out the chance of joining Barcelona, according to reports.

The German international is believed to be reluctant to join the Catalan giants after seeing Arda Turan join from Atletico Madrid, and Pedro sign a new four-year deal.

In addition, a current transfer embargo placed on Barcelona would mean the La Liga side could only officially unveil Reus in January 2016.

The former-Borussia Monchengladbach winger only recently signed a new contract keeping him at Dortmund until June 2019 but a big-money move has not been ruled out.
