Reports suggest Reds made £8million offer

Liverpool have had an £8million bid for Shane Long turned down, according to reports.

The Reds have been linked with signing the striker over the past few days and were given a surprise boost when Southampton announced the arrival of Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers.

After signing the Championship striker, the Saints chairman admitted that the arrival could see the likes of Long or Graziano Pelle leave St Mary’s Stadium.

Pelle is wanted back in Italy, whilst Liverpool are keen on adding Long to their strike-force as injuries mount up in the attacking department.

Liverpool Need A Striker

Jurgen Klopp is already without Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Divock Origi, leaving him with just Christian Benteke as a recognised striker.

With the Belgian failing to impress at Anfield, Klopp is keen on adding a striker to his squad, and Long is reportedly a target.

According to reports, Liverpool officials have approached Southampton regarding Long’s availability, but Ronald Koeman snubbed their interest as he’s keen to keep the Irishman.

Long has eight goals in all competitions so far this season, and is contracted at St Mary’s until 2018.
