Ian Ayre flew out to wrap up deal with Red Star Belgrade

Liverpool officials flew out to Serbia last night in the hope that they could wrap up a deal with Red Star Belgrade for midfield-man Marko Grujic.

It was the club’s chief executive, Ian Ayre, that flew out last night in order to hold talks with the Serbian club, and he was hoping he could leave with a deal pre-agreed ahead of the January transfer window.

According to reports, Liverpool are prepared to pay £5million for Grujic and are wanting to sign him in January, which would make him Jurgen Klopp‘s first official signing.

Send Back on Loan

The Premier League outfit are keen on signing him in January, but then sending him back to Red Star on loan for the remainder of the season so that he can continue to get regular game-time and develop further as a player.

The 19-year-old has been hotly tipped for a bright future, and it’s reported that both Inter Milan and Chelsea have shown previous interest.

Talks are expected to continue between the two clubs ahead of the January transfer window.
