Liverpool legend has his say on Sterling…again

Liverpool legend John Barnes has warned Raheem Sterling to not throw away his career so early on.

Sterling has been all over the news recently, as contract talks with his club and his representatives have again broken down.

The Liverpool forward’s current Anfield deal runs out in 2017, but he is reportedly holding out on putting pen-to-paper on a new contract because he wants ÂŁ150,000-a-week.

However, Barnes admits Sterling is yet to prove he deserves such a pay package, but also that he should resist the temptation to move to another big European club.

When speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “Sterling is not ready for a move to Barcelona, Real Madrid or Manchester City. He needs another two or three years at Liverpool. Then, if he decides he wants to move on, fine. He has to be very careful though.”

He also added: “We’ve seen it with Scott Sinclair and Jack Rodwell at Manchester City. Where are they now?”

The saga over Sterling will go on for the remainder of the season, as the player himself stated that he wants it resolved in the summer.
