Defender likely to leave Anfield this Summer

Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has warned the club that they need to make drastic changes over the Summer if they want to be contenders next season.

The England international isn’t likely to be at Anfield next year, with his contract expiring in the next few months, but he has told Brendan Rodgers that drastic changes are needed to turn his fortunes around.

Johnson Will Leave

Johnson admitted yesterday that he expects to leave the club as there are no plans in line to hold contract talks, which means he will become a free agent at the end of the season.

Rodgers has already admitted that marquee signings are needed over the Summer in order to excite the fans, but with Champions League out of their hands, The Reds could struggle to attract the top-quality players.

Liverpool finished second last year but wasted over ÂŁ100million on mediocre signings, and Johnson has warned the club that they need to make changes in their transfer policy.

Johnson Warning

The England international said: “Definitely, there needs to be changes.

“It’s the same every year and every team is going to try and do their business in the summer to try and make themselves stronger for the following the season. The club needs to do that too.

“Yeah, we have some fantastic young players but we say the same every year – we always have some good young players coming through.

“The club has got some business to do in the summer with current players and new players and it’s just about trying to get the squad as strong as possible for the start.”

Wholesale Changes

Drastic changes are expected to take place at Anfield during the pre-season and it’s reported that as many as 10 players could be sold by Rodgers.
