According to reports in Germany, Liverpool are in formal talks with Bayern Munich regarding the transfer of midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss international, who is currently in Brazil taking part in the World Cup, is reportedly unhappy with the lack of game-time at the Allianz Arena and is ready to complete a transfer away from the club in order to rescue his career.

The 22-year-old made just 10 starts under Pep Guardiola last season, and according to German newspaper, Bild, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, is ready to make a formal bid of ÂŁ16m for the wide-midfielder.

Although they aren’t currently using Shaqiri, it was suggested that the Swiss international would be the successor of Franck Ribery once the Frenchman retires, but with the 22-year-old desperate to play regular football now, Munich may struggle to keep hold of him.

With first-team football on his agenda, Liverpool are confident they can strike a deal with the German champions, and believe a ÂŁ16m bid will be large enough for them to part ways.
