Striker could be on his way out of Villa Park
Liverpool are going to bid £30million for Aston Villa star striker, Christian Benteke.
There have been plenty of reports in England, including the Sunday Times, that Brendan Rodgers has the Belgium international at the top of his transfer target list and wants to get him signed before the new season starts.
A striker is the main priority for the Reds, with Daniel Sturridge’s injury problems reoccurring and Mario Balotelli failing to hit form at Anfield.
Competition for Benteke
However, Benteke is wanted by many top European clubs and the Reds face tough competition for the target man as the Belgian has been linked with moves to Chelsea and Arsenal.
The 24-year-old has scored nine in his last eight games for Villa and has been the key player that has helped Villa survive in the Premier League.
Sherwood Confident
However, the two London-linked clubs may not have much chance in signing the goal-machine as Villa boss, Tim Sherwood, believes the striker will remain at Villa Park for at least another season.
Sherwood said: “I have no reason to think he is seeking employment elsewhere, I am convinced he wants to be at this club.”
