Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal, has ordered the board to offer Real Madrid £30million in order to sign Raphael Varane.

The Red Devils are just one Premier League side interested in signing the centre-back, along with Arsenal and Chelsea, but Van Gaal has ordered the club to smash them out of the water with a bigger bid.

According to reports yesterday, United were plotting a £22m bid, but Van Gaal wants United to secure the deal for the Frenchman and is willing to pay up to £30m to sign him.

Varane continues to be a back-up option at the Bernabeu, behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos, whilst defensive issues are still apparent at Old Trafford and Van Gaal is ready to spend big in the Summer to sort it out.
