The Polish shot stopper is set to stay at the club until 2019

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has signed a new four year deal at Swansea City.

The Poland international has been linked with a summer move to Roma, but has instead committed his future to the Welsh club, following an excellent first season.

The 30 year old made more saves than any other Premier League goalkeeper in 2014/15, with 137 registered stops.

Fabianski made 13 clean sheets last season

He only missed one league game last campaign, and said it was an easy decision to sign a new contract at the Liberty Stadium.

“I am very happy here. Right from the very first day, everyone has been very nice to me and they’ve helped me settle in quickly,” he said.

“For me it is a great place to work and continue improving as a player. I want to improve personally and as a group we have the same mentality.

“It’s a great group to be a part of. Everyone is working in the same direction and we have a great understanding between each other.”

Garry Monk expressed his delight at the news

“Lukasz deserves it. He’s had a fantastic season and it shows how committed he is to the club,” said Monk.

“It’s a great signing for the rest of his team-mates, showing how much he’s enjoyed what we are trying to do here.”

The 36 year old gaffer also explained the importance of keeping their top players for the welfare of the club, adding:

“The club has to protect itself. These players are assets to the club, they’re worth a lot of money.

“We protect ourselves in a certain sense but when players sign new contracts, they’ve earned it.”
