Liverpool star frustrated at lack of first-team football

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is putting off contract talks with the club after becoming frustrated at the lack of fist-team football.

The former-Paris Saint-Germain centre-back joined the Reds in a deal worth ÂŁ18million, but in recent times he has been used as a back-up defender.

Brendan Rodgers has preferred the partnership of Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel, limiting Sakho‘s game-time in the first-team.

The 25-year-old has two years left on his current deal, but Rodgers is eager for him to pen a new deal extending his stay at Anfield.

However, Sakho has long-term fears about his role within the first-team and is not prepared to sign a new deal until regular football is guaranteed.

National Boss Reveals Frustrations

The concerns of Sakho have also been shared with France national boss Didier Deschamps, who has admitted the centre-back is growing frustrated with life at Anfield.

He said: “Obviously Mamadou is suffering from this situation because he is a competitor and it is frustrating for him.

“The last friendly match he did was in early August. To find himself in the squad five weeks after being in full control of his capabilities, it is not possible. The guys know that.

“But Liverpool will be playing in the Europa League and have weeks where there will be three matches, so he will have more chances to play.

“Aside from that it is his choice but of course the club needs to let him go too.

“Apparently, that is not the option that has been chosen because they want him to extend his contract.”
