Man United plot £51m swoop for German duo

Man United are hoping to complete a double deal for Schalke pair Julian Draxler and Benedikt Howedes in January. The Red Devils have a huge amount of funds to spend when the transfer window re-opens and a massive amount of that could be spent on the German duo.

Louis Van Gaal has sent scouts to most of the Schalke matchjes so far this season, with reports claiming he plans a big move for both Howedes and Draxler, in an attempt to bolster the club’s options. Draxler of course was a former target for Arsenal, but it could now be their rivals who end up with his signature.

The play-maker is rated at £37m and Howedes at £14m, meaning the double deal for both could be worth about £51m. Draxler is reportedly already close to agreing a deal, while a £14m bid for Howedes will be tabled very soon.

If the two were to be signed, it would give gaffer Louis Van Gaal another good midfield option and also a new defender who could help fix their current defensive problems.
