Pep Guardiola has sent scouts to watch the Spurs left-back

Manchester City are set to rival neighbours Manchester United for the £25 million signing of Tottenham left-back Danny Rose.

Boss Pep Guardiola has had scouts watching the England international in recent weeks, and has been impressed by the reports he has received.

But the Citizens will have to fend off interest from Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils, who were reportedly interested in the Spurs star during Louis van Gaal’s days in charge of the club.

United are looking at potential new left-backs with the future of Luke Shaw in question, while Guardiola is looking to reduce the age of his full-backs, with none of his four options under the age of 31.

Rose’s pace and eye for goal have made him an attractive prospect for City, while it’s hoped he could fit well into the way the Spaniard wants his team to play and also entering the prime of his career.

But City will have the tough task of having to negotiate with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who will demand a big fee for the Spurs key man.

However, the north London club do have youngster Ben Davies in reserve to take Rose’s place at left-back if necessary, with the Wales international already pushing the England international for his place in Mauricio Pochettino’s team.
