Manchester City are set to re-open contract negotiations with midfielder James Milner, to prevent Arsenal or Liverpool making a move.

The 29 year old is currently out of contract at the Etihad Stadium, which has attracted interest from England and abroad.

Arsenal especially have been heavily linked, whilst Liverpool look to bring in another midfield player with Steven Gerrard leaving in the summer.

Talks between City and Milner had reached stalemate, but the Daily Mail report that both parties remain optimistic of reaching a solution.

Milner is said to be frustrated at his lack of regular game time, and wants clarification on his role in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.
