Manchester United eye Hummels as Ferdinand replacement

Manchester United are showing interest in Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, as they prepare for life without star-duo, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

The two centre-backs are set to leave Old Trafford this Summer, with Vidic heading to Inter Milan on a free, and Ferdinand leaving the club also, but his future plans are not clear as of yet.

Despite no official permanent manager in place at the club just yet, transfer bids are still taking place, and potential targets are still being monitored, with reports suggesting a ÂŁ27million bid for Southampton’s Luke Shaw has been made.

However, United know that they really need to buy a couple of centre-backs in order to replace both Vidic and Ferdinand, whom has been instrumental in many of their title-winning sides, and it appears that they have found one of their targets.

Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, is on United’s wishlist and a formal Summer bid could be in line once a new manager is in place, believed to be Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal.

The 25-year-old is highly rated around Europe and is growing into one of the best defenders in world football, and it’s reported that United are prepared to pay whatever it takes to sign the German international.
