Manchester United are considering offering up to £74 million in an attempt to prize away Nicolas Otamendi and Andre Gomes away from Valencia.

It’s been no secret this season that United have struggled for depth and quality both in defence and midfield, with boss Louis Van Gaal expected to spend heavily in the summer transfer window to bulk up these areas with genuine quality.

Defender Otamendi, who was the subject of a rejected Old Trafford bid in January, and midfielder Gomes are seen as alternatives to Mats Hummels and Kevin Strootman who now look more increasingly unavailable for purchase.

Gomes could be the creative spark that United have so far lacked in 2015, with striker Wayne Rooney even being tried as an alternative in a deeper role to try and help the team find a way of scoring goals.

With a clear out of a few names come the summer months, United will have cash to splash on the duo whose buy-out clauses add up to the £74 million mark.
